I'm Jérôme Pinguet, a general practitioner in the process of writing his Ph. D. thesis and the person behind https://www.medecinelibre.com, a small one person and self funded business in the field of medical free software with no link whatsoever with the pharmaceutical industry or the proprietary software industry (or any industry for that matter).
As part of my thesis about the efficiency of primary care CPOE (computerized physician order entry) to reduce healthcare induced adverse events in patients taking anticoagulant therapy, Eric Maeker, creator and lead developer of FreeMedForms and myself have decided to write a plug-in to help clinicians improve the quality of care of patients taking oral anticoagulants. The primary objective of the plug-in will be to reduce adverse events related to VKA oral anticoagulants. Among its secondary objectives, one will be of particular importance: making life easier for clinicians during the initiation of VKA therapy and also during its long term management. User friendliness and snappiness will be one of our primary concerns. A piece of software written to save lives will not save any if it's so annoying, slow or time consuming that nobody wants to use it: design matters. We don't want to increase the time you spend clicking things on a computer screen. In fact, we want to reduce it, and at the same time, reduce the time spent by our patients in ER rooms or hospital wards because of INRs dangerously outside of the therapeutic range.
We need your active involvement in the process of imagining, designing, writing, testing and later evaluating this software.
The software will be free as in freedom and as in GPLv3 (GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE version 3). It will also be free as in free beer!
For the time being, we have no funding. Donations to the french FreeMedForms not for profit association are always welcome!
The software will be fully integrated into FreeMedForms, but we sincerely hope that other EMR teams will participate and adapt it to their code.
Questions:
- Do you think this VKA plugin could be useful in your practice, clinics, hospital
- What features would you like to see included in the perfect VKA management tool
- If you have some coding skills in Qt/C++ and Javascript, would you help in the development
- Will you help us test the development versions
- Would you be ready, as a general practitioner, cardiologist, anticoagulation specialist, anticoagulation clinics practitioner or nurse practitioner, to participate in the evaluation of the software in a future clinical study
Research sources / references / bibliography of the VKA plugin project (and of the FMF project in general) are available here in open access without registration:

We would appreciate if you could add items to the library. To do so, register for free on the Zotero site and request membership of the group. I will add you.
A preliminary a very untidy draft of VKA plugin's features and roadmap is available on my personal site:

Feel free to comment, discuss or directly modify the wiki. It's in brainstorming
